.52 Cal. Anyone??
New to the caliber and this rifle...Just looking to see what and if anyone has input(load data, etc)...Thx!
Re: .52 Cal. Anyone??
I have heard the .52 is limited because there are few bullet choices. Nothing could be further from the truth. Visit the major manufacturer's sites and see the countless options of what you can configure. The .475 Bullet Diameter and .458 offer almost unlimited options, making the .52 one of the most versatile options for any hunter. Knight sells both sabots for the these diameters in for the .52. I prefer the Long Range Hunter, but that's because it's so pretty.
I use .458 lead bullet by a local manufacturer and they plow through deer at a hundred yards with 100 grains of triple 7. I have many configuration I have yet to try, but that is part of the fun!

Re: .52 Cal. Anyone??
I totally agree lots of bullets choices..I know a 52cal owner has to go through Knight to get sabots but as along as Knight is in business we should be safe and I have to give them a big thumbs up for not over charging for sabots like some Mfg's might if they " controlled the maket" on a product so to speak.
I myself bought the new CarbonKnight TH 52cal (first Knight I ever bought/owned) a couple weeks back and have since bought a LRH in 52 cal.....Replaced My old T/C BlackDiamond XR 50cal for in IMO a much nicer rifle/s that I can do it all with....

The 220grn Bloodlines did a fantastic job on Deer last year. 120grns of BH209 and the supplied sabots.

Re: .52 Cal. Anyone??
I am using 120 grains of T7-2f with both of those bullets... easily sub 120 of BH if you are shooting bh... that will get you about 100fps more with the 277 grain bullet but about half of that with the 220a1smokepole wrote:I have two boxes of the 220gr bloodline will have to give them a try and I have the .459 277gr lehighs to try so for its been a good shooter with what Ive shot just find the powder load it likes with the bullet

Re: .52 Cal. Anyone??
I'm curious about what advantages there are with a .52 muzzleloader?
Are people shooting the exact same bullets that they could use in a .50 but with a .52 sabot around it?
If so can you drive it faster from a .52 bore?
Is anyone shooting a full caliber .52 projectile?
Thanks,
Scott

Re: .52 Cal. Anyone??
The 52 comes with a 1-26 twist which stabilizes the heavier .458 bullets better than the 1-28. Helping with accuracy at extended ranges.shguns wrote:I'm curious about what advantages there are with a .52 muzzleloader?
You have to use a .458 bullet or a .475 in the sabots that are avialble now. In the case of the .458 you are using a real rifle bullet. And it is possible to get a little more velocity form a 52.Are people shooting the exact same bullets that they could use in a .50 but with a .52 sabot around it?

There is a guy on gunbroker offering 52 cal full bore lead conicals. Is anyone shooting a full caliber .52 projectile?

Thanks for the info.
Is there a sabot available that would allow me to shoot a 405 grain Remington .458 bullet in my .50 cal Disc muzzleloader?

Ubetcha... a MMP HPH .457-.458/50 Orange sabot. I am sure Harvester has one also.shguns wrote:Thanks for the info.

Here is is with a .458-300 grain Lehigh/Bloodline in it, and one my 50 cals Remington behind.
Go here and look in the HPH Chart - http://www.mmpsabots.com
50 Cal. Rifle
0457 - .458 Bullet Orange 250 - 500 Grains 250 - 300 Grains
Usually you can get Harvester sabots for less money than MMP, but I prefer the MMP ploymere formulation for hunting in cold weather.
