Hi everyone. I just ordered a Knight Mountaineer in 50 cal. Idaho requires us to use solid lead bullets and western ignition (#11 or musket cap). Any suggestions for mountaineer loads that have been successful for elk would be appreciated. :D :D :D

I shoot 80 grains of 777 loose powder and a 220 grain Dead Center Bullet. Incredible performance on deer. Shoot for the lungs and you will get incredible expansion with all bullet energy dissipated into the animal. I almost quit ML hunting until I found the dead centers from precision rifle. Good Luck

I guess you missed the restrictions for Idaho. You cant use a sabot during the ML season. Elk are also quite a bit different than deer and that load would be pretty low end for elk.

Look up NoExcuses conicals. Loads from 70-90gr of Triple7 with one of those 460s should be just fine. Start at 70gr and work up. Get some wool or veggie over powder wads too.
