Breaking out the camo and old LK93 for my Pike County, IL hunt. Got drawn for the early season gun hunt and since I love the challenge of one shot... Im opting for the smoke pole. Anybody have any advice for public land hunting without a guide service up there? I am not from IL.

I also put in for Laurel Hill WMA in my home state of TN. 9 point or better QDM hunt with a muzzleloader in October...

I have been going to IL deer hunting the last 7 yrs or so, buddy's lease. I much prefer a Knight over a shotgun slug gun, though I do take one for backup. Last Winter on an anterless hunt I took 2 shots & dropped 2 deer. My buddy's averaged about 3 shots per deer with the slug guns.

I don't have much to offer about hunting sports, IL controls access at some of the public hunting parcels. I'd start at the IL DNR website, maybe look into a plat book for the county. The IL Outdoor newspaper would also have some contact info.
