Round Two 1-20

Post by a1smokepole » November 17th, 2015, 3:17 pm

Did some more shooting today all shot at 100yds and using BH209 with CCI209m primers temp was 79* and 5 mph wind right to left reset up the breech plug for CCI209m primer and had no stick primer but did have all stick with 270gr E-max bullets and 120gr.
this target was with 200gr XTP with harvester blue smooth side in middle and then same bullet with Harvester blue crush rib at bottom left and at top left

now used the 215gr Lehigh with Harvester blue crush rib and 120gr middle then 270gr E-max with 120gr on bottom left.with the E-max is the only time the primers stick and I would say this is the max load for this bullet

Really good shooting especially the the lower left on the target I also bought a Knight Mountaineer 1-20 twist I have had the Knight Master Hunter 50 cal. for years a ton of Deer fell for that one. Put them side by side they almost look identical. Can't shoot my new one do to eye surgery but will in a week or two. I really bought it to take to the range but I doubt if I will ever hunt with them as I have 4 smokeless ML'ers

I bought one of those 1-20 mountaineers and am looking forward to some range time. How do you load a primer? (bare primer 209 Bolt) My big fingers aren't fitting into that chamber. I can remove the bolt each time to load one I guess. I tried a couple of 209 loader tools but they won't fit either. I'm planning to fabricate my own tool. Am I missing something here?

When I'm at the range I just pull the bolt put a primer in and then back in the gun.

I just hold the rifle barrel up and slide the primer into the slot with the bolt flush with the rear of the action. I'm a 6'-4" fat man and I have no problem. :D

Try a piece of clear thin tubing that fits the bolt opening. Drill a 1/4" or slightly smaller hole in the SIDE of the tubing near one end. Put the primer nose first into the hole you drilled. Now you should be able to put the primer in far enough for the rim of the primer to slide into the bolt face.

You could also try a small 1/4" allen wrench with a small piece of tubing on the shorter end. Put the nose of the primer IN the other end of the tubing. Cut the allen wrench down a little if needed.

Or get some 1/4" clear tubing. Run a coat hanger inside but leave room at one end. Bend the a short piece of the coat hanger to almost a 90 near that end. Trim excess tubing off that end.

Thanks for the help. I'll try your ideas and see what works.

Knight Rifles now offers a capper/decapper for bare primer ignition systems. It's a star shape and holds 3 primers. I think they list it as the 209 capper.
