Keeping your Powder Dry

Post by bassbucks » October 4th, 2015, 9:54 am

I was shooting yesterday using the Blackhorn 209 powder. 90 percent of the shots
had a delay between the primer firing and the powder igniting.

The 209 powder I was using was from a bottle opened 3 months ago
and had been opened several times since then.I had measured charges out 2 weeks ago to shoot, but it started
raining so I did not finish shooting.

I live in Florida and humidity is very high here and this year we have had
a lot of rain. I'm thinking the issue with the delay in the powder is possibly
from humidity adsorbing into the powder. I went to EBay last night and ordered dry packs which are the silicone packs
you find in packages used to keep moisture off products while on store shelves. You can get 100 packs in 1 gram size for less than 3 dollars

My plan is to put some of these dry packs in the open bottle of powder so the packs will
adsorb moisture and keep the powder dry as well as put one in the 209 powder measure tube.

Anyone else done this? Know of any issues doing this?

Thanks,

Bass

BH209 powder don't absorb moisture like other powders it will last for a long time after opening. have you taking a drill bit and cleaned the flash channel in your breech plug .

I use torch cleaning tools. Clean the plug several times while at the range even if it looks clear.
On Blackhorn website the recommends fresh loads every day.

Just that torch cleaner is not opening your flash channel. just clean flash channel when your at home with a drill bit help stop misfires. have you ever cleaned it with a drill bit.

X2! I would bet its a carbon buildup in the plug
