I bought a couple guns, a slew of bullets, and several lbs. of various powders to stash away for my son when the S.H.T.F .I intended to vacuum seal everything to enhance longevity .
Then I read and heard that the powder will not last in storage , that it breaks down and gets weaker.
So, is there any definitive word on how long properly stored powder CAN last ?

Now , to keep folks from rolling their eyes and just moving on without commenting ; I did a lot of searching and found a whole lotta conflicting info.

Grandpa sez he has used the same powder for over 40 years without a hitch . Another feller sez after one year it looses potency .

There has got to be answer............

Black powder is pretty much good forever, theres stories of old civil war guns, still loaded, and going off when shot 100 or more years later. Pyrodex deteriorates quick. after opening, in a year its gone downhill, 2 years and its very noticable. Seven is similar, but lasts a bit longer. Most of the subs are this way. Blackhorn will deteriorate, but much slower, maybe good for a few years. So, a lot depends on which powder.
