Re: Mountaineer Grouping
what is the cleaning strategy at the range if your not using blackhorn?
I use RS powder and live in oregon so my gun is western ready. I use the German number 11 caps and no Sabot. I shoot 350 grain maxi hunter and 110 grains by volume RS.
Thanks

Re: Peep sight for mountaineer
Too dark in the timber. Excellent in the open or on the range but the light lost in the timber is a huge compromise. If your animal is in the shade, it can be incredibly hard to pick them out of the shadows against the background.

Re: Volume and weight
Well, powder is super hygroscopic, so it will absorb moisture from the air and change mass readily. I'm thinking to measure by volume is really maybe a more consistent way to go. Just be sure that your consistent in all that YOU do when you measure; ie, how hard and how many times you tap your measu...

Re: New smokepoler in need of assistance
i agree. Start at 50 or even 25 yards to get sighted in and make sure that you have 3-4 good shots per group and disregard the outliers if you think you may have made a poor shot (twiching or bumping the gun). I used to shoot 120 grains rs with a 350 grain maxi hunter and all was good, but with my n...

Re: New smokepoler in need of assistance
Seems like you need to spend some time working up a load. Lots of variables and can certainly take some time but extremely satisfying. I'm in oregon and we have to use loose powder and naked conical bullets without a sabot so I might be in a different boat than you. I bet that you can find the corre...

Re: Ultra-Lite bolt disassembly ? 'headspace' issue?
Super impressed with outcomes. I missed 6 or 7 calls from Sam at knight but when he finally got a hold of me the second time, they were sending the fix and some extras to make things right. Right it is! Got a longer breech plug that fixed all spacing issues and this thing shoots a 3/4 inch group at ...

Re: Ultra-Lite
Just got back from 2 solid days at the range with my new Ultra-Lite. So... 350 grain maxi hunter conical. 1 inch group at 100 hundred yards with 105 grains rs. But... 350 grain maxi hunter conical, 110 grains rs and 3/4 inch goups at 100 yards. Those are clover shaped clusters :) This thing is a tac...
