I purchased a Mountaineer and have been shooting different loads to find the accuracy load for my gun.

I have shot the 220 and 250 bloodline bullets with 90, 95, 100, and 110 powder charges by weight
with the Buckhorn 209 powder.

I can't get groups less the 2 and 1/2 inches at 100 yards and sometimes groups are more than 3 inches.

I clean my gun after every shot.

Anyone have a suggestion as to what load to use or what I might try.

There is no need to clean between shots with Blackhorn209. When it is time to clean use a regular centerfire solvent like Hoppes. Make sure to remove the carbon from the breach plug as shown on Westerns website too.

BTW don't you mean "by volume"? Those loads by weight are VERY high. 90gr by weight its around 130gr by volume.

I mean by weight. I converted the volume to weight based on Blackhorn's conversion recommendations.

Example 70 grains weight = 100 grains volume.

Still looking for suggestions on load for accuracy.

GMB54-120 is wright do not clean your gun at all when your shooting BH209 and make sure you clean all the oil out of the barrel before you shoot it powder don't like oil. and the weight thing don't look wright when you say 95gr weighted don't what to see yourself blowup. look at one of the sabots after you shot it and see what it looks like and report back.

Lastly. I have been using bore butter. Is this good?

No, Bore Butter is terrible. When using BH209, treat your bore like you would treat a centerfire. Use the same cleaning and lubrication products you would normally use with smokeless powders. Clean and lube when you are done shooting. Remove the lube before shooting the next time.

Thanks Much. We will lose the bore butter and only clean after shooting with smokeless power solvent and see what happens.

I would suggest standard Win209 primers also. Avoid primers made for muzzleloaders. They are reduced power for powders liks Triple7. Fed209A primers would be my 2nd choice.

Bore butter only good for patch lube not a gun bore clean your gun gooooood .
