Mountaineer - 209 Bare vs FPJ

It looks like Sportsman's Warehouse has the Mountaineer .50 for $120 less than Knightrifles.com but it APPEARS to only come in FPJ.

I understand the FPJ will cause more mess with regards to blowback but that it essentially turns the gun into 100% waterproof.

I also saw some comments that the Mountaineer is meant to shoot 209 bare and NOT the FPJ, but that it is still offered as a preference.

Can someone help me decide--is FPJ a bad idea for the Mountaineer? Why would 209 Bare be the preference?

What powder will you be shooting.

Either BH209 or 777. Or whatever you experts recommend is the best combo.

I should add this is in Colorado so I will be using full size bore bullets without sabot.

With T7 you will be fine just us a mild primer like W209 or less. if your going to use BH209 you will need the bare primer setup it works better for this powder. and keep your breech plug clean with a drill bit by hand not a drill.

Sacrificing waterproofing for what--a cleaner gun? Is there any accuracy or reliability concern with regards to hunting?

It would be my suggestion that you shoot a NFPJ with BH as the first choice. It probably would not be first choice because of the price of BH. I still shoot T7 and have really no problems with it.

Waterproofing - with a w209 primer and if you get a slight primer crush when you close the bolt - it is nearly water proof if it is not totally water proof.

The NFPJ is cleaner but it also more efficient in that the gas is directed directly down the breech plug. The NFPJ also provides that all the pressure is used pushing the projectile up the bore - no blow back or so little it is not worth talking about.

The $120... that is something I guess you have to decide...

That is a great deal on a .52. I just can't seem to justify it with the lack of .52 full bore bullets (Colorado hunter). But seems like a better shooter, especially out beyond 150 yards.
