Octagon Receivered MK-85
Does anyone know approximetely how many MK-85s were built with the true Octragon receivers? Does anyone know what year they made the switch to the more widely known receivers? I know allot about Knight muzzleloaders but honestly I have never seen another with this type receiver. I know that for awhile these guns were hand built in Tony's garage. I suspect this may be one of those rifles. Someone shortened the stock on mine for a woman shooter. I would love to find an original stock for this but I suspect I'm out of luck!

I would sure like to see a pic of your rifle if you wouldn't mind posting one.

Nice, The lowest serial # on one of mine is 2800 something. It has the rounded edges on the receiver.
Re: Octagon Receivered MK-85
I was told that SN were not always consecutive and actually jumped around. You could also specify your own serial numbers in the early days. I know the very first rifles did have consecutive numbers
If memory serves me correctly no. 1 is in a museum. I have heard rumors about the whereabouts of serial no. 2.

My Back Country Carbine has the # 13105 and has the Octagon receiver. And it was made back in the Garage days.
Re: Octagon Receivered MK-85
Hello all,
I have the same Mk-85, .54, s/n 407800. Was looking to find out the twist rate and when it was made.
My first muzzleloader ! Very nice rifle ! can't wait to shoot it and take out hunting.
Waiting for last minute parts and supplies for a final cleaning and inspection. Then off to the quarry above my hunting partners house to sight in and become familiar with it.
This will be a big change from my 7 mm mag. I am very excited. Can't wait to squeeze off the trigger on the hunt.
Thank you
