Switching barrels

Post by yotehunter243 » October 7th, 2015, 8:22 am

I have a 2 year old disc extreme .52 cal.with the bare primer upgrade. I am wanting to buy a .50 barrel to simplify my bullet buying. Will my bolt and breech plug still fit the .50 or will I need to buy all new?

Yes, i swapped many barrels around. Ive used a 52cal LRH barrel with Extreme parts and a Elite stock before too.

Thanks. I thought I could but wanted to make sure. My 52 cal hasn't been shot much. But I'm not liking my limited choices of bullets.

Limited?

There are tons of .458 bullets 300gr+ on the market. There are a couple 250gr bullets also. Nearly any of the cheaper 300gr JHPs work really well with milder loads. There is no need to drive them fast since they are made for lower end 45/70 speeds. http://www.midwayusa.com/45-caliber-458-459/br?cid=7290

I'm sorry, I should have worded that different. I should have said the ease of buying bullets. It's not as easy as just going to the local store and get bullets when your in a pinch

If you get in a pinch look for these http://www.nosler.com/ballistic-tip-muz ... er-bullet/

Use your 52x458 sabots. These bullets are .458 but come with 50cal sabots only.

I just stock up on bulk 52x458 sabots and 458 bullets. The Hornady 458 325gr FTX is the same bullet Knight sells with sabots. You can save quite a bit buying them separately. The Hornady 250gr 458 Monoflex looks nearly identical in size but its lighter since its a copper alloy. Barnes 300gr 458SOCOM bullets also shoot pretty good. Any store with a reasonable amount of reloading supplies should have some 458 bullets. Even Cabelas has a few.
