Squeeze,

Here's a quick rundown of differences that I could think of:

Barrel: The Mountaineer is 27" fluted, the Disc Extreme is 26" and not fluted.
Bolt/Bolt Handle: The Mountaineer features a jeweled bolt/handle, the Disc Extreme is not jeweled.
Ignition System: The Mountaineer comes standard with the Full Plastic Jacket System or 209 Bare Primer, while the Disc Extreme comes standard with the FPJ or Western ready.
Stocks: Each one has some exclusive stock patterns.
The Mountaineer is available in .45/50/52cal, the Disc Extreme is .50/52 only.

I guess it would depend on what ignition you want to primarily use, and then if some of the cosmetic upgrades in the Mountaineer are something you're after.

I also see that the OD Green stock on the Mountaineer is alot cheaper-- only $110 more than a Disc Extreme (I'm comparing straight stock non-scoped models). When you go look at Knight's stock assemblies, the Moutaineer stocks are more expensive, so I'm sure some of the cost difference is there.

Hope that helps!

The forked recoil lug is the most important differnce in my opinion. The Mountaineer has it, the extreme does not.
